The Ndlovu Youth Choir gives a nostalgic football anthem a modern revival as South Africa celebrates Bafana Bafana’s qualification for the Round of 32 at the FIFA World Cup.
South Africa (26 June 2026) – When football meets music, South Africa always finds a way to make it unforgettable. The Ndlovu Youth Choir has done exactly that with a fresh take on one of the country’s most iconic football anthems.
With Bafana Bafana booking their place in the Round of 32 at the FIFA World Cup, celebrations have spilt far beyond the pitch, and the choir added their own creative spin by reworking TKZee’s legendary 1998 hit “Shibobo” into a vibrant, modern tribute.
The original track, famously released during South Africa’s first-ever World Cup appearance, became a cultural moment in its own right. Blending kwaito rhythms with a sample of Europe’s The Final Countdown and featuring Benni McCarthy, the song captured the excitement of a nation stepping onto football’s biggest stage for the first time.
Now, decades later, the Ndlovu Youth Choir have reintroduced the anthem in a refreshed form. It’s a lively, uplifting energy that ties past and present together. It is both a nod to history and a celebration of how far South African football.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect. As Bafana continue their World Cup journey.
