The road through the Schaumberg informal settlement has invisible speed humps and many commuters are taken by surprise; this crew came together to make sure it was visible to all!
North West, South Africa (06 October 2022) – There are more dangers on South African roads than just potholes; a crew of community members took on the challenge of painting several road signs and speed humps near the Schaumberg informal settlement in Skeerpoort.
In an effort to do a bit of community service, Tracy Robb and her crew went into the community to lend a helping hand. The team used their resources to paint the large speed humps along the road so that drivers wouldn’t be taken by surprise.
“Bill Harrop’s balloon crew team doing a service to the local community and assisting our guests in seeing the huge speed humps at Schaumberg informal settlement in Skeerpoort. Even the Local SAP stopped and thanked us for the efforts. Hopefully this will save a few sumps and lives.”
Tracy Robb is the Director and Chief Pilot of Bill Harrops Balloon Safaris, and she wanted to make a difference to the community in which they operate the business from. The business changed hands in 2021 after the passing of founders Bill and Mary Harrop. Today it is managed and run by a dedicated team. Tracy has been a pilot and maintenance engineer for Harrops since the 1980s, so it is incredibly close to her heart.
The company does romantic hot air balloon rides through the Magaliesburg Mountain Range or the Mabula Private Game Reserve, overlooking the beautiful wildlife so popular in South African game reserves.
The act of community service will be greatly appreciated by the community for years to come. It makes the road a safer place for all!
