Helping Each Other. Why giving in South Africa is so important. Kelly McGillivray, Tyrone Shabalala, Brent Lindeque, Good Things Guy

South Africa is facing a tough time when it comes to charity… we have become numb to the reality of what our country has to deal with every single day, but it is still our reality.

If we want better neighbourhoods, we need to be better neighbours.

Kelly McGillivray, a friend of Good Things Guy has been working hard on social media to get Tyrone Shabalala, a future rugby legend from Fourways High to a rugby tour in the UK that could kick off his entire career…

“I have recently been granted the opportunity to play in a team which plays against top English Universities, and Academy’s. This is a scouting process whereas the top talent is recruited. I believe I stand a higher change in being scouted, as God has blessed me with talent, passion and willpower, so great, that I can achieve the goals I set out for myself.

I have been working towards this for so long, but my parents don’t necessarily stand in a financial position to fully fund this tour.”

But Kelly realised that it’s tougher to raise money than we think.

“I don’t understand, I am hoping that it is Facebook algorithms and not people who are jaded and disinterested… I have posted a request on my timeline for people to donate to a young man who wants to reach his dream of playing on an international rugby tour and I get one like on the post and the donation amounts don’t climb.

I have donated R500.00 and shared it 3 or 4 times. But let me post a video of my kid and it gets 14 likes. So I take a deep breath and hope that it is just the algorithm

If 250 people donate R200 he reached his dream, if 500 people donate R100 he reaches his dream. If you are interested in helping him let me know and I will send you the link to donate…”

Both Kelly & Tyrone join the Good Things Guy Jacpod to chat about the rugby tour, and the state of giving in South Africa!
