Visitors can look forward to a new restaurant and interpretation centre, wheelchair-friendly access and rehabilitated grounds, among much more!

Western Cape, South Africa (16 April 2026) – The Agulhas National Park Lighthouse Precinct has had a significant upgrade, with R81.7 million invested by the Department of Tourism and SANParks to improve the facilities and overall experience for visitors.

The park is located at the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, and conserves a unique natural environment alongside the cultural heritage of the Khoi and San communities, which dates back to the 1800s.

It’s always been a favourite for maritime history enthusiasts too, and anyone who enjoys a good coastal road trip!

Visitors can now look forward to brand new facilities, including a 60-seater restaurant, a fully equipped interpretation centre, visitor and bus parking, new access stairways and a wheelchair ramp for better inclusive access.

The water, sewer and electrical services have all been upgraded, the grounds have been landscaped and environmentally rehabilitated, and there will be a dedicated space for local SMMEs to offer crafts, food and cultural experiences.

The new interpretation centre also gives the Khoi and San heritage a home where guests can engage and learn about the region’s very rich history.

One of the greatest things to come out of this project was job creation! This multi-million rand investment created employment and training opportunities for over 117 people from Agulhas, Struisbaai and Bredasdorp.
