The 2017 list of the top 100 most influential Africans has been released and South Africa has ranked high with a total of 18 people on the list.
In its vision of recognising young achievers across the African continent, Africa Youth Awards has released its 2nd annual list of the 100 Most Influential Young Africans of 2017. The initiative is considered to be the biggest and most respected across the continent.
The list was restricted to age limits between, 15 and 36 had a coverage of 28 countries on the continent. A whopping number of women made the list. The President of the Africa Youth Awards believes this is a great move to inspire more young women in Africa and across the world to reach out for their dreams.
The public was encouraged to nominate their most inspirational locals for the list. The nominations were received and reviewed by the website before the list was released.
South Africa is apparently filled with the second most inspirational people on the continent. Nigeria came in first with 19 people over our 18. Obviously it isn’t a competition but to know we have some really cool people on our side is great!
If you are wondering what the awards aim to achieve, it is this:
Recognise and award young African achievers
Bring young like minds together for a common purpose and goal
Create efficient mentorship for young Africans
Change the global perception of African youth
Support young Africans to realise and reach their full potential, and become future leaders of Africa
To instil a sense of pride and collective nation building within young Africans
