A mother’s world had crumbled, leaving her adrift and alone. At a time when she was barely able to care for her son, she found her way to the One Small Act of Kindness charity, which offered more than just food and shelter. It also offered family, a listening ear, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Johannesburg, South Africa (20 March 2025) – Once devastatingly heartbroken, lost, forsaken and with no clear direction, a mother in need was hanging on by a single thread before an unexpected glimmer of hope lit her path.

In a touching video shared by the One Small Act of Kindness charity, the mother pours out her heart about how she had experienced a lot of heartache and pain in her past.

“I was broken no one wanted me. I tried knocking everywhere, but no door was open for me. I couldn’t find a job. My family neglected me because of my actions. They didn’t understand me. I was so broken and left alone in the streets. I didn’t have a place to go or to sleep with my son. It was very hard,” she reflects emotionally.

But not everyone had written her off and this adveristy was only but a season – not her life story.

She soon found her way to One Small Act of Kindness where she was met by kind strangers who very quickly became family. She was offered a filling meal, a listening ear and a place to call home.
