Baby Hannah’s father, a SAPS officer, missed out on winning big with 947. He emailed them to explain and what happened next united a city!
Baby Hannah was born prematurly with a rare condition where, at birth, only half her face was formed, leaving her without an eye on one side of her face and half a nose. Sadly her condition wasn’t only her physical appearance it affected her bodily functions too.
The family did everything in their power to make sure she got the medical care she needed, even on a police officer’s salary. They have been relying on the Government health care system. Baby Hannah is in need of another surgery and the expense would be more than the family could cover.
Hannah’s dad decided to enter every competiton on 947 to hopefully win some money to pay the medical bills. At long last he got the call he had been hoping for… only he couldn’t take the call as he was busy dealing with a gunshot victim at the time. He then sent 947 an email to explain why he missed the call. He share the story about Hannah’s condition.
He explained why he had entered the competition, the financial strain due to medical bills was taking its toll and they needed anything they could get. He had hoped that the prize money from the competition would be such a relief. Anele and the 947 breakfast team read the email out on live radio. What happened next was incredible!
The Anele Breakfast Club team set up hidden cameras in a car and told Hannah’s family they were taking her to a specialist. The surprise was that the family was being taken to the studio. It was during the car ride that they started discussing Baby Hannah.
People from across Joburg started pledging money to Baby Hannah’s medical treatment and they raised a total of R 202 000.00 in one show.
