James de Villiers left his phone in an Uber but thankfully Gustavo Souza, a Brazilian tourist, was the next rider. He found the phone and tracked James down.
James de Villiers is a Cape Town local and Business Insider journalist. While out on Friday night, he forgot his phone in the Uber. A disaster in this modern age. Thankfully, the very next rider in that same Uber car was a selfless and dedicated human.
Meet Gustavo Souza, a Brazilian tourist on holiday in Cape Town. He saw the phone and quickly picked it up. His goal was to track down its owner and return it.
Gustavo spent two whole days working on messaging people on the phone in order to track down its owner. He made use of Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. Finally, he was connected with James.
The pair made plans to meet up and in the process, became unlikely friends. James shared the story on his Facebook and Instagram account saying,
“Immensely grateful for Gustavo Souza – on holiday in Cape Town from Brazil – who returned my iPhone after I lost it on an Uber on Friday night.”
“He spent two days contacting my friends on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook just to get hold of me and returned my phone fully charged.”
“He is kindness”
Gustavo has been really happy to help.
“Hey, friend! Thanks for the message, I’m very happy for the recognition. It was my duty to return it to you. A big hug!” – Gustavo Souza
We just love stories like this. What a goodie!
