Nigel and Adrian Payne embarked on a non-stop 2150km cycle across the country (again) so that more children fighting serious diseases can reach for their dreams.

South Africa (17 July, 2023)—For almost a decade, two brothers have tackled extreme cycling across the country so that more children in some of the toughest circumstances can reach for their dreams. 2023 saw Nigel and Adrian Payne hit the pedals and travel some 2150km across South Africa on their bikes yet again, bracing the elements for a life-changing cause.

The Winter Race Across South Africa (RASA) Freedom Challenge takes place during a time when most South Africans will put up a good fight not to leave their homes without a good reason. However, for determined racers who traverse through some of the coldest areas in South Africa, the bite of cold, rugged terrain and complex navigations during a non-stop cycle has the worthiest reason.

Each RASA racer has the chance to make a difference for the children and teenagers fighting serious diseases that leading non-profit, the Reach For a Dream Foundation gives hope through Dream Days and other means of support.

Nigel and Adrian have completed the epic challenge for 7 and 8 years respectively. This year both brothers finished the mammoth task in 21d 17h36.

This follows their incredible achievement in 2022 where together they managed to raise over R330 000 for Reach for a Dream!

Both the brothers have been endurance sports lovers for decades and you might have spotted them at the Comrades, Two Oceans Marathons, ABSA Cape Epics and other sweat-a-thons.

Reach For a Dream shared:

“Their journey of resilience and determination mirrors the spirit of our dreamers. Here’s to the Payne Brothers – proving that dreams are worth every challenge.”
