ER24

A 2016 Facebook post is making the rounds again showing how amazing the ER24 Paramedics are. The post shows a paramedic helping an old man and making his wish come true.

A post from 2016 has been making the rounds on social media once again and it is inspiring so many people. We checked our archives and can’t believe we have never shared the story before. So here it is…

Dirk Gunther who was 84 at the time, had not seen a beach in 35 years.  While being transferred by ER24 from a hospital in Newcastle to another in Durban he mentioned that he wished he could see the ocean because it had been so many years since he saw it last.

Paramedic Margery Meijerink, from ER24 Newcastle, said she would do her best to grant his wish. Sadly the weather on the day of his transfer was not the best and they had to skip the beach.

She, however, did not leave it there. After speaking to the ER24 Durban Branch manager, Jannes Prinsloo, she was given the go-ahead to grant Mr Gunther’s wish.

During the transfer back to Newcastle, Lucas Nzimande and Shaun Naidoo from ER24 Durban, stopped at the beach, allowing Mr Gunther to experience the beach after years of going without it.

While it was a simple stop for the guys, it must have meant the world to Mr Gunther. ER24 constantly goes above and beyond to help those in need and to inspire South Africans.
