The South African medical fraternity came together to mourn the loss of five incredible heroes; honouring their lives and the work they did.

Durban, South Africa (30 January 2021) – Loss was felt in all corners of South Africa the day we lost Dr Kgopotso Rudolf Mononyane, Dr Curnick Siyabonga (Siya) Mahlangu, Mpho Xaba, all from Netcare Milpark Hospital, Sinjin Joshua Farrance of Netcare 911 and Mark Stoxreiter from National Airways Corporation (NAC). These five heroes died in the line of duty.

The Netcare teams are profoundly saddened by the passing of five valued colleagues who tragically died in the line of duty in the accident, and deeply appreciate the many messages of condolence and support received from around South Africa for the families of those who passed and for their colleagues, who all deeply feel their loss.

The entire medical fraternity has been moved by the loss. They have come together to honour Dr Kgopotso Rudolf Mononyane, Dr Curnick Siyabonga (Siya) Mahlangu, Mpho Xaba, Sinjin Joshua Farrance and Mark Stoxreiter.

Yesterday we shared the tribute made by Netcare 911 at the crash site which you can watch here. The crash site is on a farm near Winterton and has been marked with five white crosses and five indigenous trees.

Anthony George Kirkwood filmed the convoy of ambulances, paramedics, doctors and nurses driving in honour of their fallen colleagues. Take a look at his incredibly moving short film below.
