Little Dreams has been founded to provide support to 17 children living on a plot in Pretoria – the creche will now provide everything they need.
Johannesburg, South Africa (21 July 2024) – The Heart of Stella Foundation has once again invested in education, adopting, in fact, establishing a creche for children in need. Following on from their work in revamping schools and planting food gardens, the foundation has played a role in the building of a new creche.
The team were approached by the “Unchain our Children Umbrella Wing” to assist on the development of a creche for children in need. In building the team, Heart of Stella brought on other NPOs to assist on the matter, that being KidsCare.
“In 2024 the call was to assist with building of a creche for 17 children in Hornsneck in Pretoria West. These children live on the plot, most not in school – they come from rescue missions, extreme poverty and have little to nothing. With only two empty donated containers, provided by Big Box Containers, we set out to do the following:
Furnish the two containers on the plot that is age appropriate for the children to use as after care, holidays, weekends and a general place of safety and happy space for children where they can play and learn.
Create a full outside play area to stimulate gross motor development and encourage healthy play”
In consulting with an occupational therapist who came to do assessments with the children, they were able to advise on appropriate learning and stimulation programmes. They also established soup days with the children and even a fun cupcake and doughnut spoil on one of the site visits.
“The name bestowed is Little Dreams Sanctuary – a place we hope will foster and preserve those little dreamers. May they never lose hope that anything they want to achieve in life is within their reach and they are not destined to repeat generational curses
If you are not creating hope – you are destroying it. Let children be children – the crux of what we believe.”
Following their love of providing edible spaces, they plant 50 citrus trees on the grounds, which will add much-needed shade in the years to come.
“From absolutely nothing, to this – we are happy to handover a beautiful place of safety and memories for the children.”
