Megan Rossouw has achieved a feat many only dream of: publishing her first book! This young wordsmith’s passion for storytelling blossomed from countless hours spent in her school library, transforming her love of reading into a tangible accomplishment.

Cape Town, South Africa (03 March 2025) – Hours spent at the library played a significant part in inspiring Wolraad Woltemade Primary School Grade 7 pupil, Megan Rossouw, to write and publish her first book!

Barely into her teens, Megan has already become a published author, with her book titled The Battle of the School.

Good Things Guy connected with the talented writer to learn more about her recent accomplishment. Asked what the book is all about, Megan describes it as a fun and creative story that follows a girl named Kaitlyn, who is adopted by Mrs. Flora, the principal of Magnolia High School.

“Principal Flora is very competitive and can’t accept that her school is only second-best in the district. She devises a plan to claim the top spot, but it isn’t exactly ethical—and it involves Kaitlyn stealing something important. Kaitlyn knows that what they’re planning is wrong, but what will she do?” Megan shares, giving us a glimpse into this intriguing story.

The book took her about three months to write, finding time between the midterm school holidays and free time during the third term last year.

The Wolraad Woltemade Primary School pupil’s love for reading was nurtured by playtime and spending a lot of her time in the library from as young as 10.

“My friends even joked that I should work there. I loved reading, especially thick books, and I enjoyed writing stories for English class,” Megan laughs.

She also loved playing with dolls and would find herself making up all kinds of creative stories.

“Sometimes I got little ideas from books like Dork Diaries and Diary of a Wimpy Kid because those were my favourites at the time.”

Megan’s mother, Jolanda, is immensely proud of her daughter, who shines as a natural-born storyteller.

“She has such great potential which I’m so glad she uses and develops. Reaching this milestone at her age should just be the catalyst to even greater achievements,” Jolanda says.

With her first book already out, a testament to making her dreams a reality, the future is bright for this young wordsmith!

Megan sees herself becoming a scriptwriter when she grows up, bringing even more of her ideas to life, and we cannot wait to see her debut in the theatre or film space too!
