graduation

The Grade R’s from Riversands Primary School near Diepsloot celebrated their first graduation and were treated to Bags of Love by the loving charity too.

Bags of Love is a charity based in the North of Johannesburg. They focus on giving love to those in need by way of filling bags with necessities. Recently they worked to give love to a group of Grade R learners who were graduating for the first time. The school wanted to make their first graduation special and so the charity stepped forward to lend a helping hand.

The class consisted of 39 young pupils and each child got fitted with a graduation gown and cap. The charity also managed to get an R1000 donation towards the awards and trophies.

Bags of Love filled bags with exciting goodies and each child was given a bag to take home after the graduation ceremony.

“Our charity, BAGS OF <3 (Love) , filled 40 drawstring and shoulder bags (charity bags from Cotton On, linked to providing 40 000 litres of fresh drinking water) with stationery items, snacks, a juice, a ball, socks, hair accessories (for the girls), face cloths, soaps, sweets and various goodies as a surprise to celebrate their special day.”

“We were also able to donate R1000 towards certificates and trophies, thanks to a contributor from Canada! It was such a happy occasion, well attended by parents who were entertained by dancing groups from Grade Ones and Grade R,  songs and poems presented by the children. The Grade R teacher is Ntombi Hlatshwayo who has had an extremely busy year with 39 pupils in her care, aided by two volunteers.” – Sue Harwood

Over the year the school has faced countless challenges, from water cuts to gas shortages, all of which affected the feeding programme or the quality of schooling. Despite these challenges the school has flourished and will continue to do so thanks to generous donors.

There is a group of people who work hard to improve the school, if you would like to join their cause, you can join their Facebook Group here.
