Shelter

Peter Greenwall and Toni Venter met a homeless man living on the beach in Cape Town. They offered to pay for his stay at the night shelter and changed his life

The pair met a man who was in good health, living on the Broken Bath Beach in Cape Town. They could see he had pride and was just down on his luck. Toni Venter approached him and offered to pay for him to stay at one of Cape Town’s many night shelters.

She sat down on the beach and wrote a note for the young man to take with him. While Toni was doing that, Peter Greenwall asked him about his life and how he came to live on the beach.

It turned out that this young man, named Johannes, came to Cape Town because he was told he had a job on a wine farm. He travelled with a friend and when they arrived at the vineyard, only one of them got the job. This meant Johannes was stuck in Cape Town with no way home and no way to support himself.

Toni got him shelter and then went to visit him and work on building a CV.

The video that Peter took got a lot of attention and was seen by someone able to help. Shelley Finch, who also shared the video gave an update on how the video had changed Johannes’ life.

“He’s off the beach, into a shelter and tmrw (sic) he starts working for Quinz Quality Caretakers & Maintainance thanks to Essie Pessie who saw the video I posted yesterday and offered him a job. Maybe this can be a thing” – Shelley Finch

The happy outcome has sparked an idea, writing CVs for the homeless who wish to work and change their lives. We love this idea!
