Some teachers leave footprints. Others leave roots. Teacher Vanessa did all this and more for the Grade 1s of JBay Academy Primary School. Her heart-melting send-off said it all!

Jeffreys Bay, South Africa (22 January 2026) – Sometimes the people who have the greatest impact on our growth are those who stand before a blackboard every weekday, planting seeds that will go on to bloom into our future success.

Regardless of how long ago you started school, most of us still vividly remember our Grade 1 teacher. As our first guide into the world of “big school,” they tend to leave an impression that is impossible to forget.

At the end of last year, JBay Academy Primary School said goodbye to one of their most cherished Grade 1 educators, closing on a chapter that will forever live in their hearts.

Teacher Vanessa had been part of the JBay Academy story since the very beginning and recently left her heart in the halls she helped build.

A video shared by the school captured the emotional farewell as little hands applauded, arms wrapped tightly around her, and hearts struggled to let Teacher Vanessa go.

As JBay puts it, there were no big speeches, no loud words. Just love, gratitude, and a room full of emotion.

“She didn’t just teach Grade 1. She nurtured, she prayed, she shaped foundations that will carry these children far beyond these walls.

“As she and her family step into a new season in Paarl, we speak blessings upon blessings over their journey.”

The video post has garnered over 154K views on Facebook, and the sweetest messages for the teacher who evidently poured herself into developing young minds.

“Watching this made me cut onions. She is a good teacher. She has got patience, understanding and is very persistent. She gave my daughter a foundation that will forever live in her as she grows. Thank you so much, teacher Vanessa,” commented Kayleen Kimberley Zinabwa.

Another user, Qhamie Thandos Kama-Ngengqa, also showed the teacher love:

“We will always love you. You’ve done an incredible job at foundation phase,” shared

The school further wished Teacher Vanessa well, asking that she would be led, covered, and surrounded – just as she had done for so many at JBay.
