Lornette Josephs was sitting in the traffic when she noticed a woman in a wheelchair struggling along. The next moment a JMPD officer walked over to help her.
The moment Lornette Josephs saw a JMPD officer walk over to a woman struggling to move her wheelchair along, she knew she was about to witness kindness. Lornette was sitting in traffic on her way up Rissik Street in Johannesburg city centre when she captured an image that is warming the hearts of South Africans across the country.
According to Lornette, the woman was having a hard time in the wheelchair. A JMPD officer also noticed the sidewalk battle and walked over to assist the woman without even being asked. He got behind the chair and pushed it along.
“Most mornings (if it’s not raining) the JMPD officers are out on Rissik. They don’t always direct traffic, they sometimes just watch and see if they need to jump in and assist with traffic. On Friday the JMPD officer was standing at the robot watching the traffic and the lady in the wheelchair was struggling to get up the pavement, without her asking the officer came up behind her and just helped her. She seemed to be ‘loaded’ up with stuff and was struggling to hold her bags and push the chair. He pushed her down Rissik, unfortunately, I don’t know for how long.”
This officers kindness can lead us to assume that he would have pushed the woman all the way to her required destination and probably back again!
Thankfully Lornette was able to take a photo of the kind deed on her phone before driving on to her destination. The reason this story is so amazing is that this officer performed this act of kindness from the goodness of his heart and not to be praised by the public. To him, his deed would only ever be known by the woman he helped and himself.
We can bet that he never expected to be caught on camera and we can also bet that he never intended on inspiring a nation, but he was spotted and he has inspired South Africa!
“We often forget that just a little kindness can go a long way and giving isn’t always the way, but also deeds and kind words. This officer really made my day and made me proud to be in Jozi”
