A lucky kitten has left the public in awe as it survived a building fire; the Johannesburg SPCA were called out to rescue the 4-week-old from an elevator shaft.

Johannesburg, South Africa (07 September 2023) – The Johannesburg SPCA shared a heartwarming story about a rescue that was almost impossible to complete but that their inspectors never gave up. A four-week-old kitten was rescued from the still-burning CBD building and taken to safety.

According to the SPCA’s post, the rescue team was called in when someone heard a kitten crying in an elevator shaft that was not in working order. The SPCA team rushed over and spent a great deal of time trying to crack open the shaft.

The rescue was time-sensitive as parts of the building were still burning and the tiny kitten was in a great deal of distress.

“Our guys had their hands full when they got a call that a kitten had fallen in a lift chamber that was no longer working.

Lucky for the kitten someone heard him crying for help.

Our team went out and had to think quickly as to how they were going to get the little guy out. The fear was that he might wander deeper into tiny spaces which would have made the rescue almost impossible, as the building was still burning in certain parts.

After what seemed forever, the little guy was successfully rescued without any injuries. He was very vocal when rescued as we are sure he must have been extremely scared!”

Being so vocal was one of the reasons this little kitten was found. Sadly the team were unable to find any other cats or kittens in the building.

“He is now safely back with us, and enjoying all the spoils he can get.

Once he is old enough our brave little guy will be up for adoption.

Thank you to the JSPCA pawpatrol squad for saving yet another animal!!”

Keep an eye on the social pages for an update on when this vocal kitten is ready for adoption.
