Junior Argus

Isabella Februarie was born with hip dysplasia, her latest surgery didn’t hold her back from competing in the Junior Argus to honour her dad, a fallen cyclist.

Isabella Februarie is a determined 7 year old! She was born with hip dysplasia, both her hips and legs were dislocated at birth. Doctors told Celeste, Isabella’s mother, that she would never be able to walk. Today she can walk, run and swim!

Isabella went in for her 8th operation on the 30th of January 2017, while still in the process of rehabilitation after her latest op, she makes use of crutches at home and her wheelchair at school. None of this slowed her down when she took part in the Cape Town Cycle Tour Junior Argus on the 5th of March 2017.

The brave and determined Isabella did the Junior Argus in honour of her late father Randall Februarie, a popular rider for Crown Cycles in Claremont who was tragically killed in a hit and run incident in July 2016.

Celeste now cares for Isabella as well as Isabella’s older sister Mia who is 13 and her baby brother Caleb who is 2. The loss has changed the families lives forever.

“He was the gentleman of cycling. Everybody loved Randall,” said Oscar Cloete, a close friend of Randall Februarie

Isabella did the race in 40 minutes with the help of her dad’s friend, who would have been listed as a ‘Co-pilot’. Her dad’s friend pushed her wheelchair while her mom ran in support next to them.

“She is a very determined young women, she believes she can do anything she puts her mind too. Her dad cycled in the A group for many years”

“She had lots of fun, she was however concerned when she saw no other kids in wheelchairs but that did not stop her”

After the race Isabella was absolutely thrilled, she always strives to do her best and did exactly that! She absolutely loved the Vida Café team they made her a delicious hot chocolate.
