Born with a rare Congenital Heart Defect, Baby Levi is already a survivor at just 5 months old. Wanting to give the little one and his family a better fighting chance, Levi’s grandfather put his heart into raising funds for Levi’s medical journey, and in less than a month, kind-hearted people have already rallied over R80 000!

Johannesburg, South Africa (12 July 2023) — Thanks to a dotting grandfather’s tireless battle to help his little grandson get the medical help he needs, Baby Levi’s journey is looking a lot more hopeful. In less than a month, the funds Dirk Brouwer rallied for baby Levi went from R20 000 to R104 000 all thanks to kind-hearted people who were moved by the family’s determination for their littlest member.

Baby Levi’s Heart Needs Extra Care

In his short life, little Brouwer has already been deemed a survivor. Baby Levi was born with a rare Congenital Heart Defect known as singular ventricle complex— a unique heart condition affecting only 0.005% of newborns. He had his first open-heart surgery at two weeks old.

Essentially, his condition means that instead of four working chambers, Levi only has one, placing strain on his delicate heart and lungs as oxygenated and deoxygenated blood mixes in his heart.

This means a long medical journey ahead for the little one and his family as his condition can’t be cured. However, with proper medical support, Levi has a very high chance of living a normal life.

So, Levi’s grandfather decided to take on the mission to raise as much financial support as possible to give Levi’s journey the best shot and to help the family’s financial strain lessen.

“We are immensely grateful to have had Levi with us for five months already. He is a God-given miracle who fills our hearts with immeasurable joy, happiness, and gratitude. This young, faithful family holds an incredibly special place in our hearts,” expressed Dirk.

Thanks to numerous parents, grandparents, anonymous Good Samaritans, South Africans and strangers from overseas, Dirk’s mission no longer seems impossible and Levi’s medical fundraiser is almost halfway to its target of R240 000!
