One man, over 80kms and a fundraising target that was surpassed by over 800%! Kyle Alington decided that if he was going to ‘punish his legs’, it might as well be for a good cause, and so it was. Thanks to his determined dash, Kyle has raised all-important funds for the animal organisation Funda Nenja.
United Kingdom (09 September 2024) — On Saturday, while South Africans were glued to our screens to support the Springboks and their victory over New Zealand on home turf, a man across the pond embarked on his own victory lap and a determined dash for South African animals in need!
Kyle Alington decided to dedicate his longest run ever to Funda Nenja—an NPO focused on bettering animals’ lives in the Mpophomeni township in the KwaZulu-Natal, Midlands. This is something the organisation does largely through empowering children in the community to learn about animal welfare and become agents of change themselves.
Many people, including Greta Wilson (who has dedicated extremely thoughtful fundraisers and acts of kindness to Funda Nenja), have stood behind the organisation and their mission. And now, Kyle’s joined the troops of change-makers!
With the start of Kyle’s determined dash based in London and his finish line standing all the way in Brighton, the runner prepared for over 80kms of time on foot to support the organisation.
“I figured if I’m going to punish my legs like this, I might as well try to do some good in the process,” Kyle shared.
He described his reason for supporting Funda Nenja simply: “Funda Nenja [are] a fantastic charity that empowers underprivileged children in South Africa through the magic of dog training.”
With a lion’s heart, Kyle successfully navigated the long way ahead on his Colly to Coast mission, claiming over 83 kilometres in just under 10 hours.
But that wasn’t Kyle’s only victory. In a massive moment of fundraising success, he successfully surpassed his initial fundraising goal by a whopping 810%, raising £1,216 in total (around R28,552) for the organisation!
Reflects Bryony Roe:
“We are all so so proud of him and are absolutely thrilled by the success of his Funda Nenja fundraiser….Every now and then, we come across people, somewhere in the world who are doing selfless and random acts of kindness. One of these special people, is Kyle Alington.”
