Made for More’s surf therapy programme allowed one young boy to live out his dream and fully embrace the joy of the ocean!
Scottburgh, South Africa (18 September 2024) – For many physically challenged youngsters and children, simple things like getting to play, dance, skip, ride a bike or run around with friends seem like a farfetched dream.
For one particular boy, going to the beach and experiencing the waves crashing against his small frame was a deep desire that was finally brought to life by the Made for More team!
Sporting the biggest and brightest smile, the young boy got to realise his dream of enjoying the beach and it didn’t just stop there!
He also got to experience the thrill of tandem surfing with Coach Owami Zama who encouraged him to kneel, sit and ride the surfboard on his own.
The initiative was made possible through Made for More’s surf therapy exercises, a family-style adaptive surfing programme in which coaches teach water safety and adaptive ways to bodyboard, surf and experience the freedom of the ocean.
It is especially enriching for children with disabilities, not only promoting motor skills but also affording them a unique way to experience the ocean beyond their limitations.
“What a joy and privilege to play a small part in making dreams come true. Thank you to Blue Marlin Hotel and The Reach For A Dream Foundation for including us and making this happen,” the organisation shared.
