A Port Edwards Good Samaritan is being hailed a hero for helping save the life of a man who was washed out to sea; the NSRI has commended his efforts.
Port Edward, South Africa (23 February 2023) – NSRI Port Edward station commander Gert du Plessis has thanked a local Good Samaritan for helping save a man’s life. The man swam out with his longboard and the Glenmore Beach pink buoy and was able to bring the man back to shore.
The rescue took place on Monday afternoon. Thankfully, the Good Samaritan was in the right place at the right time.
“At 16h39, Monday, 20 February NSRI Port Edward duty crew were activated and responded to Glenmore Beach following reports of a drowning in progress.
On arrival on the scene it was determined that a man being swept out to sea had been assisted to shore by a Good Samaritan, an adult male, who had launched a longboard, accompanied by a pink rescue bouy, and using the 2 floatation devices he was able to rescue the man to the shore.”
Once the medical team was able to assess the victim, he was rushed to the hospital with non-fatal but serious growing symptoms. The Good Samaritan was able to get the man out in time for him to make a full medical recovery.
The patient, a local adult male, was in a serious condition suffering non-fatal drawing symptoms
NSRI medical crew initiated medical treatment and oxygen therapy.
Kwa-Zulu private ambulance services attended at the scene and paramedics took over care of the patient.
The patient was transported to hospital by Kwa-Zulu ambulance in a stable condition and he has been released in good health from hospital.
The Good Samaritan is commended for his actions.”
