A Nal’ibali poster at a local soup kitchen. That is all it took to set Nthabiseng Kgakatsi on the path to realising her deeply held dream to work with children and be a part of the change she wanted to see in Dealesville.

Dealesville, South Africa (11 July 2025) – There is a dream alive in each and every one of us, a seed just waiting to take root and give our lives purpose and meaning. For Nthabiseng Kgakatsi, the dream was always to work with children and bring some kind of positive change to her community of Dealesville.

How she would realise this dream was the big question, until an answer unexpectedly came to her in the form of a Nal’ibali poster, which she happened to come across at a local soup kitchen in 2018.

“I didn’t know much about them, but I took a leap of faith and applied,” Nthabiseng shares.

Her journey would see her develop the skills required to use literacy as a tool to uplift young minds as a Story Sparker.

In her role as a Story Sparker, Nthabiseng ensures that books and stories come to life for children in languages they understand, fostering a love for reading and learning.

Her daily activities include organising literacy-related events and activations, distributing books and other reading materials, raising awareness about the importance of reading and sharing stories, and inspiring communities to get involved.

Through her commitment, Nthabiseng not only uplifts young minds but also embodies the power of a dream taking root.

Her life-changing opportunity is the direct result of the partnership between Nal’ibali and Letsatsi Solar Park Trust Literacy Project, an initiative that provides jobs and skills development for story sparkers while helping to improve reading and literacy in their communities.

“Nal’ibali has helped me grow both personally and professionally, and I am committed to helping the children of Dealesville dream big and fly high,” a content Nthabiseng shares.
