Kimon ‘Kiki’ Bisogno was a beloved member of her community who dedicated much of her time to serving the homeless; the angel of Observatory. Now, her memory shines through a beautiful mural.

Cape Town, South Africa (26 April, 2023) — Kimon ‘Kiki’ Bisogno’s memory still warms parts of Cape Town. The angel of Obs is described as an emblem of light and kindness, elements of her character that now shine through a mural honouring her.

Last year, Kimon was the victim of a shark attack. Her passing was felt all over Cape Town.

A community leader, Kimon is described as someone who had a love for people that outshone the darkest moments; dedicating her time to feeding Cape Town’s hungry through Obs Pasta Kitchen, which she co-established.

However, her kindness and light are still felt throughout the city, with Observatory honouring her in the most fitting way for the artistic suburb—through a mural.

Artist Marti Lund created the scale tribute mural at Ferdinando’s Pizza where Kimon was co-owner. For Marti, it was a privilege to honour Kimon.

“My experience of Kimon was of lightness and presence. She was always the most colourful, compassionate and vibrant person in the room. This reference picture of her captures that beautifully, taken in Bali by Diego. She is holding a traditional Balinese offering called Canang Sari. It is an offering to the Gods, as a gesture of gratitude. It has been said that ‘Joy is the simplest form of gratitude’. We all felt that in Kimon.”—Marti Lund.

As Obs Pasta Kitchen dedicated to Kiki beautifully:

“We will laugh the way you would want us to! Your life left a lesson for each of us. An impression on everyone you touched and we will forever honour that.”
