After an accident left her father paralysed from the chest down, this little 6-year-old has taken such great care of him that the world is reaching out.

Every once in a blue moon we find a story that moves us so deeply we don’t know whether to go hide and cry for the rest of the day, crawl into a ball under the desk or give out office hugs for comfort. We were moved to crocodile tears with this one because it just shows how much love some people have for their family members.

It all started in 2016 when Tian Haicheng was in a tragic accident that left him paralysed from the chest down. Brace yourself, it is about to get a little more heartsore before it warms up into a beautiful story.

After just two months of being at home, getting used to his new life as a man in a wheelchair, Tian’s wife of 7 years and mother to his two children abandoned him. She took their oldest son with and said she was visiting family, only she never returned.

“She told me on the day that she was going to stay in her mother’s home for a few days. But she never returned, and she took our son with her,”

This left just Tian and his daughter Jia Jia. This sweet little girl knew she needed to step up and started taking full care of her father. Every morning she wakes up at 6 am to start their day. She gives him a full body massage for 30 minutes each morning before brushing his teeth and washing his face.

Then, using a DIY mobility system, she moves him to a space where he can look out the window and watch TV. She then heads to school. While Jia Jia is at school, her elderly grandparents care for her father.

Once she returns from school, she feeds him dinner and helps with any tasks he may need assistance with, like shaving his beard.

“At the beginning, I didn’t know how to shave and I cut dad’s face and it bled,” she said.

“But dad said it wasn’t painful. Now, I’m very good at shaving his beard. My grandmother says I shave it very clean.”

Tian has set up an account on China’s live-streaming app Kuaishou to show the world the incredible work his daughter does to care for him. At any given time of the day, more than 480,000 people are following their daily struggles together.

Our hearts and eyes melted when we heard this story. What a lovely show of love and care. We just need a minute to pull ourselves together after that.
