Rosamund Pike or Sharon from Sandton? Honestly, can’t tell the difference.
South Africa (07 November 2025) – Rosamund Pike, the English star famous for her roles in Gone Girl, Pride and Prejudice and I Care a Lot, has mastered the South African accent for her latest movie.
She plays the villainous Veronika Vanderberg in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.
Her character’s name is so South African the ‘c’ is even swapped for a ‘k’ and her surname includes the word ‘berg’.
That’s how you know.
And she actually does a really good job of pulling the accent off. In a recent interview with Ian Paget about her role, the Hollywood actress gave a full-on crash course on South African dialect.

The comments section had us giggling. Some South Africans didn’t realise they had an accent until hearing Rosamund pull it off. Others couldn’t tell the international star apart from your average Bryanston mom whose kids go to Saints.
“I’m so glad to hear a South African accent from a movie that’s not Afrikaans based… She really nailed it,” wrote one commenter. “Get her on eNCA right now,” joked another.
In the movie, Pike plays a powerful diamond heiress, alongside a star cast of Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt and Morgan Freeman.
The movie’s about a daring new team of illusionists pulled into a high-stakes heist that spirals into revenge.
In cinemas later this month, if you’re interested.
