Locally loved queen of the decks, DJ Uncle Waffles, is making massive moves in the global music scene and is up for consideration for two Grammy nominations!
Global (24 October 2023) — South Africa’s music scene has been engulfed in the global spotlight recently, with artists fresh and seasoned celebrating big moments. But, the local music scene wouldn’t be complete without DJ Uncle Waffles (Lungelihle Zwane), who is up for two Grammy nomination considerations!
In the past two years, Uncle Waffles has risen to enormous fame in and beyond South Africa, predominantly for her crowning as the local Amapiano princess.
The word of Waffles (who actually hails from the Kingdom of Eswatini) soon spread to the world and with a wealth of support for her music, the queen of decks even performed at Coachella earlier this year—which South Africa took as a victory.
Beyond this, one of her songs also kickstarted Beyoncé’s iconic Renaissance Tour with a co-sign that had South African fans beaming.
Now, even bigger moments are on the line-up for Waffles, after she shared the news that she is up for two Grammy Nominations.
Taking to Twitter, the DJ shared:
“It’s been an amazing year, I’ve played 100+ international shows and I’m soo [grateful] for everything that continues to happen in my life. Today marks the 2 year anniversary since my life changed and I’m in awe at what has happened since, and this part of my journey is even more exciting as I’m proud to Announce that I’m in the running for two Grammys nominations, I need my babysss to share this post for me.”
Waffles is up for consideration for Best Global Music Album (Asylum) and Best African Music Performance (Yahyuppiyah).
Members of the Recording Academy will tackle the screening, and should Uncle Waffles make the nominations list, the news will be revealed on 15 November, per the Recording Academy.
