Piano

Qden Blaauw, South Africa’s very own Piano Protégé has been given the amazing opportunity to attend a Masterclass in Germany, making him the first every person from Africa to be invited. Let’s help get him there.

Qden Blaauw found his love of piano at the age of eight. He was waiting outside the music class for his mother to collect him when he heard someone playing on the piano. The sound enchanted him and he had to learn it for himself.

Recently Qden was selected as one of ten pianists worldwide to have been invited to Saarlouis in Germany (23 – 30 March) to attend masterclasses under the guidance of Prof Wolfram Schmidt-Leonardy. The invitation is a first for anyone from Africa. Qden hopes to attend the Masterclasses and learn from the greatest pianists of today.

His trip, however, is self-funded and his father Denric has created a Go Get Funding page to help raise the R60,000 needed to get Qden to this once in a lifetime opportunity. The campaign has done incredibly well and just over 50% of the funds have been raised so far. If you would like to contribute to this aspiring musicians dream, you can do so here.

“During his stay in Germany, Qden will also perform in four concerts including a concerto with a leading German orchestra. The proceeds of this concert will go to a UNICEF project – Schools for Africa. He will once again make history by being the first African to be invited to this prestigious event.” – Denric Blaauw

Qden is a classical pianist and loves to compose. He also plays the violin. You can watch his beautiful talent below.
