dance awards

Competing against seven other countries, Reabetswe Kungwane made South Africa proud by bringing two trophies home from the American Dance Awards.

The American Dance Awards were founded in 1979 with the idea that the competition would be an educational tool to inspire dancers and their teachers to be the best they could be. The competition is open to all solo dancers free of charge.

“It’s about camaraderie, not the color of the ribbon.”

None-the-less, South African darling Reabetswe Kungwane flew over to Hollywood to compete in the competition and didn’t disappoint. The talented young dancer brought home two trophies, something she is incredibly proud of doing.

“I like dancing so much because instead of writing my emotions I dance out my emotions.

“The competition was very nice, there were a lot of dancers, we were competing against seven countries and I came back with trophies.”

She was blessed to meet her dancing role model at the competition and was given some valuable advice. The competition organiser also told her “to not let fear stop her from shining”. When Reabetswe isn’t dancing, she is a successful child author. She published her first book in February of this year.

The book is titled ‘Stories you’ve never heard before’ and it is a collection of 10 short stories based on her everyday experiences. Each experience showcases a different moral. She even got to do a few illustrations in the book.

Reabetswe hopes to inspire other children her age. Go out and reach for your dreams kids!
