The Sandton community came together to make a thoughtful mission possible. One Jar of Hope holds a world of difference for a family in need, and together, the community packed over 1000!

Sandton, South Africa (16 August, 2023) — In a heartwarming display of unity and generosity, the Sandton community banded together to make many Jars of Hope go a long way; exceeding expectations marvellously.

Led by Sandton women of the Sandton Ladies Circle and the Doorway to Dignity teams (who handle many projects of hope), the project aimed to pack a punch of goodness in honour of both Nelson Mandela Day and Women’s Day, over the past weekend.

Initially, 670 Jars of Hope was the goal, but thanks to the efforts of kind Sandtonians coming together, 1468 Jars of Hope were packed and shared with the less fortunate.

How a Small Jar Makes Big Change

Each jar is filled with 6 essential dry ingredients with the intention to go far and last long.

Doorway to Dignity has used the Jars of Hope to feed communities across hectic circumstances, from the pandemic to fire aftermaths.

The jars are made up of different ingredients (like rice, lentils, and stock cubes) that can be poured into a pot with water and a few stock cubes. The meal is then cooked and can feed four or more people.

“People from all walks of life came forward to contribute their time, effort and resources to ensure [the project’s] success,” shared the Sandton Ladies Circle.

“As the day progressed, the assembly line of helpful hands tirelessly packed each jar with care, knowing that their contribution would make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.”

In fact, the Jars of Hope have made a difference in over 5872 lives.

The SLC further shares that one inspiring aspect of the project was the involvement of local teenagers from schools around the area.

“Their eagerness to participate and give back to their community exemplifies the spirit of compassion and altruism that is alive and well in Sandton’s younger generation.”

Other Ladies Circles and teams involved in the project were Ladies Circle Edenvale, Northridge, Jacaranda, Round Table, Little Eco Kids, Fourways Loin and Agora.

The Jars of Hope have since travelled to areas in need, including a charity school in Randburg, a home for orphans in Limpopo, to people in Eldorado Park and Krugersdorp.
