When scrolling through your feed sets the tone for a life-saving miracle! A post about registering as a stem cell donor intrigued Goikantswe, ultimately paving the way for her to become someone’s life-saving match years later.

Tshwane, South Africa (27 November 2025) – In 2022, while scrolling online, Goikantswe came across a story about a stem cell donor that inspired her to register that very same day!

For Goikantswe, reading that one powerful story opened her eyes to the impact of one simple act.

“I registered online that same day because I believe everyone deserves a chance at life,” she says.

At the time, Goikantswe was balancing her studies at Tshwane University of Technology, never imagining that two years later, she would become someone else’s chance at life.

And when that moment finally arrived, she was thrilled and humbled to learn she was a match.

“It was surreal to think that I could potentially save someone’s life. I felt a mix of emotions, excitement, gratitude, and a deep sense of purpose.”

Her journey, which began with reading another person’s story, had now come full circle. The stem cell donation was more than a medical procedure; it was an act of humanity for Goikantswe.

“Knowing that my donation could bring hope and healing to someone in need made the process even more meaningful. I was eager to move forward and do everything I could to help.”

She considers becoming a donor as one of her best decisions yet and encourages others to consider it too.

“You never know whose life you might save, or how it might change yours in turn,” says Goikantswe.

DKMS Africa works to build an ethnically diverse registry of blood stem cell donors, increase public awareness, and support patients throughout their treatment journey. To be like Goikantswe, visit the DKMS Africa website to register as a stem cell donor today!
