Diagnosed with endometriosis, midwife Sebabatso Tsaoane often wondered if she would become a statistic who never got to experience the joys of motherhood. But the hopes of her heart materialised in the form of a precious baby girl.

Bloemfontein, South Africa (29 April 2025) – Endometriosis affects many women across the board. It’s defined as a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing severe pain in the pelvis and issues with fertility.

When Sebabatso Connie Tsaoane received this diagnosis years ago, her dreams of one day becoming a mother were shattered.

As a qualified Midwife and Midwifery Lecturer at the University of the Free State, Sebabatso immersed herself in a research study looking at how endometriosis affects fertility, among many other things. During that time, one thing always stood out most; she couldn’t help but wonder if she would be part of the statistics related to infertility.

But her story now transcends those concerns, blossoming into a heartwarming reality. Years later, she finally became a mommy to a precious baby girl.

“I can’t believe that once upon a time I honestly wondered if this would be possible for me too.

“I will never take any of this motherhood experience lightly, and oh what a precious little girl who gets to call me Mama,” she shares in a post.

In a post, Sebabatso shares adorable glimpses into the joy of attending princess birthday parties with her baby girl – something that had once been a far-fetched dream.

Her post, which has gained much traction online, not only warms the heart but also gives hope to countless women experiencing endometriosis and similar challenges she once did, too.
