A South African singer has WOWED American Voice judges after singing a ‘Macy Gray’ cover!
America – The ‘blind auditions’ for the American Voice are currently underway, and on Monday night’s (Mar. 11) upcoming episode, South African Selkii WOWED two of the judges!
Selkii is an indie folk musician originally from Durban but is now based in Florida. The talented artist is a Live-Looping-Singer-Guitarist, and her love for adventure and the ocean come through in her narrative and thoughtful lyrics. Her hypnotic voice has a reputation for stopping people cold in their tracks.
The 31-year-old singer took to the stage to perform a cover of Macy Gray’s hit ‘I Try’. She immediately caught the attention of Adam Levine, followed by Blake Shelton who turned his chair at the very end.
Levine immediately mentioned that his wife Behati Prinsloo was also born in Namibia after hearing where the talented singer was born.
“My wife will kill me if I don’t get you on my team,” Levine said.
“You know I have never been to South Africa. I’d like to imagine that over there, you’re country because I’m looking at you with the hat and acoustic guitar,” Shelton chimed in, before throwing a characteristic jab at his Maroon 5 pal. “I’ve been doing this show for a long time and so has Adam. The only difference is I have won twice as many times.”

The teaser did not reveal which judge she chose but it did give us a snippet of her beautiful voice and after the official show aired in America on Monday night, Selkii took to Facebook to announce which judge she picked.
“So so thankful everyone for their kind words!!!! Humbled to be amongst some of the most amazing singers I have ever heard and given this platform to shine my light to the world with the support of my amazing hubby Edge! Also so so stoked to be on Blake Shelton’s team we love him!”
We look forward to following your journey Selkii!
