A meaningful “shopping” initiative is bringing a sense of pride and self-esteem as a way of offering a tangible boost to those who often walk our streets with lowered heads.
Krugersdorp West, South Africa (04 April 2025) – No one really goes out of their way to choose a life marked by adversity and homelessness. There’s often always a greater reason behind a person’s story. The members of the WAS Foundation understand the power of giving and the impact it has on building the self-esteem of the men and women who walk the streets with their heads down and shoulders lowered.
One of the ways the organisation does this is through the Shopping with Love project.
“Our Shopping with Love project allows our beneficiaries to shop for free at our soup kitchen in Krugersdorp-West, thanks to the generous donations from our incredible supporters,” shares WAS Foundation founder Esmarelda Van Zyl-Kilian.
It touches the soul to see what goodness can come about from individuals parting away with something as simple clothing items and shoes they no longer need, to hand over to those really in need.
“Through this initiative, we provide essential items to those in need, but it also cultivates a sense of pride and self-esteem, creating a positive impact throughout our community,” adds Esmeralda.
She further extended her gratitude to supporters who make this all possible, describing their donations as tangible as acts of love that help build a stronger, more compassionate community.
