Tamzin Sheasby took to her local community Facebook group to ask if anyone had any old Shrek toys they were willing to part with. She needed the toys for her 4-year-old son Malakai, who has Mosaic Down Syndrome and is obsessed with the big green ogre.

She had spent some time shop hopping, trying to find the toys herself but because the movie is old, nobody stocked items relating to it anymore.

Shortly after publishing the post, a woman named Tiffany Gumbi, came forward and mentioned that she had sadly just given away all her son’s Shrek toys. This is where the story gets interesting. Tiffany mentioned the post to her 5-year-old, Gerry Otieno Gumbi. Gerry made it his mission to find a new Shrek toy for Malakai.

“A lady named Tiffany Gumbi replied and said she had just given away all her son’s Shrek figurines and wished she could help, she then told her son Gerry Otieno Gumbi aka Blue, 5 years old about my little boy who desperately wanted a Shrek, this little boy took it upon himself to find Malakai a Shrek. He went to all the neighbours and friends and couldn’t find one, eventually, he went to a second-hand toy shop in Benoni town and found a Shrek teddy, he made his mom buy the teddy for Malakai.”
“A few days later I organized to meet them at the mall up the road from me and Blue gave Malakai theShrekk teddy, Malakai smiled and just kept saying “Shrek, Shrek, Shrek” then he kissed his teddy and wouldn’t let it go, it even went to OT with him that day…”
“I’m so grateful to this little boy and his mom for their kindness and love they showed me and my son.” – Tamzin Sheasby

Gerry’s dedication to helping Malakai is incredibly heartwarming. With 5-year-olds like this, we have the greatest hope for the world. What was a simple quest to fulfil a wish, has become an inspiring story of kindness and love!
