Keanu was diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer when he was just 2-years-old and has been an absolute little superhero through it all. His family are throwing a massive party to help raise funds for his treatment

Colette van de Giessen shared the story about her son, Keanu, with us and we were so moved by his fighting spirit. Keanu was diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer at age 2. Since his diagnosis, he has been through all the lows that cancer has to offer but retained his fighting spirit.

The doctors told Colette that there wasn’t much hope, the news broke her heart. His little body was riddled with the disease. Once he started chemo and lost all his hair but soon after he finished the treatment, he started to feel much better.

“He had it all, but we were amazed at how strong this little warrior is. His pain subsided after the first chemo, and he was soon running and playing again, like any boisterous toddler. I almost have my child back again, except that he looks like a little fairy out of a children’s story.”

To get the best treatment, Keanu was moved from private care to government care as there are currently no private paediatric oncologists in South Africa. Government care is his best chance.

Currently, Keanu has been given a 40% chance but with specialised treatment, that gets bumped up to 60%. Colette has been doing research and the best course of care is to get Keanu to the UK for treatment. The family will fight with everything they have to get Keanu even just 1%. To do this, they have been fundraising to pay for his treatment.

The family are throwing a big bash at the Banyard Theatre in Willowbridge called the ‘Blaze of Glory‘ party.

“Blaze of Glory features a hot 9-piece rocking cast performing songs perfect for the open road. Experience a number of great tracks from the 1960s through to the 1990s; classic rock songs that have stood the test of time!”

Colette has been blown away by the support of people at her offices. Many have donated their own personal leave days so that she can have time off to be with her son. Management has even implemented various fundraising raffles to help alleviate the mounting medical bills.

This story is about more than just Keanu’s cancer battle. It is also about the unfailing support the family has received. You can follow their story here.
