The taxi driver wishes more men would “stand up” and look after the women and children of South Africa!
Limpopo, South Africa – A taxi driver is being lauded on social media after posting about his sanitary pad initiative!
Taxi driver, Kamogelo Mampatla Betha from Lebowakgomo in Limpopo went viral this week for his post about the sanitary pads, and the reason he keeps them in his vehicle.
“I take it upon myself to buy pads for the children that board my taxi every month, it’s only R20. Some can afford them, and some don’t. But even those who do sometimes forget them at the worst times. Be a real man and look after our woman and children.”
When asked how others could support his initiative, the humble South African simple said, “By telling your male friends to join in. Any contributions at Churches, schools, libraries and any other public places.”
Speaking to DRUM magazine, the 31-year-old explained that the idea to stock up on pads came about after he noticed that some of the school kids he transported every day would stain the seats of the car in the morning.
“Sometimes I would even find toilet paper they had used for their menstruation and that affected me because I realised that some people cannot afford pads. It’s really sad, people are very poor and cannot afford such cheap items.”
