Kim Mynhardt shared the story about Tanya Laubscher, a dedicated teacher at Regents Park Primary, who goes beyond her duty to create a good environment for her learners.
Tanya Laubscher is an Afrikaans teacher for grade 6 and 7 learners at Regents Park Primary. When she isn’t teaching her students Afrikaans, she is doing a million other things to help encourage and uplift them.
Teacher Tanya spends her free time working as the school counsellor to assist the children that have been abused. She also makes lunch for the children that simply do not have food at home. At the start of each year, she purchases stationary from her own money so that the 50 children she teaches can do their work properly.
Kim Mynhardt shared her story with us to highlight the sheer dedication Tanya has for her learners. With classes as big as 50, she takes the time to interact with each child and make sure they are coping with the workload.
“I would like to nominate a Teacher at a school in a less affluent area for everything she does for her pupils. This lady makes extra lunch on a daily basis and feeds the less fortunate kids, takes hot chocolate to school in the winter to warm them up and as a reward for doing well in her class. She acquired two hamsters named Legen and Dary (=Lengendary) to teach the kids responsibility and kindness. Even assisted one pupil to get into the Oprah Academy”
“She got a group of her Friends and fellow Teachers together and decided to surprise the Senior Girls in the school with a beautifully renovated bathroom. Everyone jumped in and got some sponsors for Paint, Toilet Seats and even Sanitary Towels.”
“[She} Spent the past Saturday fixing it up and painting it, full of inspirational messages for these girls.” – Kim Mynhardt
Tanya wanted the girls to feel inspired so she filled their bathroom with inspirational words and messages. Take a look below. It is teachers like Tanya that truly make a difference in the lives of the young minds.
