Founder of Soshanguve Animal Shelter and Educentre NPC, Tebogo Maredi, is dedicating his life to creating pockets of hope for both neglected animals and children in need of love.
Soshanguve, South Africa (10 February 2025) – When turning a blind eye to the cracks of our society is far too easy, Tebogo Maredi chooses to go out of his way to mend them in any way he can and with boundless love as he serves his community of Soshanguve.
Moved to provide love and shelter to the numerous animals subjected to ill-treatment, Tebogo founded the Soshanguve animal shelter and Educentre NPC – now a lifeline for countless defenceless animals and an advocate for the prevention of cruelty towards them through education and awareness.
His journey has never centred on wealth or status; instead, it revolves around the kind of love that notices an abandoned dog shivering in the cold and stops everything to provide it with comfort.
Creating a safe space for animals in need
According to a post, Tebogo transformed a simple space into a haven where animals found a second chance and children learned the value of compassion. With no steady funding, no grand sponsorships, and often just the support of kind-hearted strangers, Tebogo built something truly remarkable in the heart of Sosha.
Come rain or shine, night or day, Tebogo and his team are ever-ready to attend to a call of an animal in danger or distress.
Despite his shelter being at full capacity and funds dwindling, recently this gentle animal guardian didn’t hesitate to help a dog that had wandered into a stranger’s garage, clearly having gone several days without food. And as Tebogo often does, he took in the poor dog, significantly improving its heartbreaking circumstances.
Nurturing the hearts of Soshanguve children
The unsung hero’s kindness doesn’t stop with animals. His shelter is also an Educentre, where children learn about compassion, responsibility, and the beauty of giving. Many of these children come from difficult backgrounds where love is scarce, and hope is fragile.
Through simple acts teaching a child how to feed a dog, letting them feel the warmth of a rescued puppy, or showing them that kindness costs nothing Tebogo is shaping a future where empathy thrives.
Tebogo’s unwavering spirit
Despite the struggle to keep the centre running without proper funding, he refuses to give up. Some days, he stretches the last bag of dog food and prays for another donation.
Tebogo epitomises how a heart full of love can change the world! We’re touched by his commitment to serve others and even willing to break his back for it. His compassion is truly worth celebrating and supporting.
