Imagine if you could save a life and support local causes in the same breath. Well, that’s exactly what the Western Cape Blood Service’s new charity initiative, ‘The Extra Drop,’ is all about!
Western Cape, South Africa (06 March 2025) — The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is thrilled to announce the launch of its first-ever charity initiative dubbed ‘The Extra Drop’.
A means to save lives while supporting local causes, The Extra Drop initiative is gearing up to do a lot of good.
“Every time you donate blood you receive a small token of appreciation from WCBS. You can now either choose to keep your token of appreciation or pay it forward, whereby WCBS will donate R15 to a selected cause,” the team explain.
How It Works:
- Donate Blood: Visit any of the WCBS centres to donate blood, where you will receive a token of appreciation as a thank you for your donation.
- Choose to Pay it Forward: After donating, you can either keep your token or donate the R15 to charity (a paper card that can be dropped off into the donation box.
- A Double-Dose of a Difference: If you choose to donate your token of appreciation, WCBS will contribute R15 on your behalf to the charity of the month. This way, you’ll have donated blood and positively impacted a charity!
- Charity Rotation: Every two months, WCBS will support a different charity that’s been carefully selected by the WCBS committee. These charities will focus on areas including: healthcare, education, poverty alleviation, youth development, early childhood development, humanitarian work, people with disability, environment and animal welfare throughout the Western Cape.
The first charity partner is The League of Friends of the Blind, which is dedicated to empowering blind and visually impaired individuals through rehabilitation, skills training, employment readiness and mobility support!
