Last week, the ‘Goose Samaritan’ gave people all the feels after he was filmed by a random onlooker, sharing the little had with a Goose in Cape Town. Why does he feed them daily when times are so tough? Here’s the beautiful story!
Cape Town, South Africa (18 May, 2023)—After an onlooker captured a video of a man sharing the little he had with an Egyptian Goose, something happened to many South Africans who watched the moment. The Goose Samaritan had reminded us of something we’d forgotten amid all the pay and power cuts—we can still make a difference where we are, with what we have.
Many people had wanted to give back to the Goose Samaritan himself, bringing the flow of change-making full circle. We tracked down the Goose Samaritan and found him to be Clive Booyson of the Secret Love Project. But, that wasn’t the end of the story.
People from all over South Africa were deeply inspired by Clive, thanking him for regifting us a little faith in humanity. Still, many wanted to know why Clive did what he did—especially given his circumstances. The Secret Love Project helps propel people in need like Clive onto better trajectories, giving the homeless the chance to turn their lives around by selling love stickers. Clive is by no means in a position to give back without a second thought, but he still does. Here’s why:
In a video sent to Good Things Guy, Clive opened up about why he does what he does for the ducks (geese).
“Two weeks back my little boy was here with me from Manenberg staying with my grandmother. So we saw the ducks [by] the robots so he tells me ‘Daddy I want to feed the ducks!’ so we feed the ducks.
“When he went home, he asked me ‘Daddy did you feed the ducks? Everyday when you come to Cape Town you must feed the ducks for me, please daddy I love the ducks.’
“So I feed them everyday, three times a day they come there by me,” he shared, going onto say they find him by the robots.
“I buy a loaf of bread for them and i feel them three times a day with the bread.”
He did it for his son, and we’ve got all the goodness goosebumps.
Everyday heroes like this often go unsung, but their impact is ten-fold. Today it’s a goose, tomorrow it’s the person who saw him feeding the goose who decides to give back to someone else. And so the art of giving goes.
Sometimes the softest acts have the biggest impacts, and people like Clive are proving it.
