A photo from a train crash in Johannesburg is going viral on South African social media.

 

The photo was taken on Thursday evening when two trains collided at the Van Riebeeck Park Train Station in Kempton Park.

Over 300 people suffered injuries when the train travelling from Johannesburg to Pretoria, crashed into the back of a stationary train at Kempton Park in South Africa. 32 of them were seriously injured, although not to a critical level.

The trains were en route from Johannesburg’s Park Station to Pretoria and, according to Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng, were carrying around 4 000 commuters between them when the crash occurred at Van Riebeeck Park station.

The photo which was originally posted by Thabang Moeng and being rapidly shared on social media, shows a South African man carrying a fellow passenger on his back.

The photo has been shared by thousands of South Africans who all agree that this is the image reflecting the real South Africa!

Michael Beukes commented: “This is what we should live for.. saving each others lives not taking them. Very inspirational photo! Let this man be an example for us all.”

Mxolisi Mhlongo Joko added: “God bless you for yo help man ….this is nation Mandela wanted to see.”

Jenny Templemore-Walters said: “That is how the majority of the nation is. It’s the minority that keeps fuelling racism for their own benefit.”

Mia van Breda posted: “Most south africans are like this man….. Not seen or photographed, just doing what is right!”

Antoinette LeRoux Author agreed: “This is an image reflecting the TRUE South Africa! It’s only a few from both ends of the spectrum that are trying to destroy our country. We shouldn’t allow them to carry on with that nonsense. Pictures like this bring tears to my eyes…”
