Vanessa Adams overcame drugs and gangsterism to become a forensic police officer with a passion for feeding the community.

Paarl, Cape Town – Vanessa Adams has always wanted to feed others. When she was young, she would bring hungry children home to her mother so they could eat. Once she even invited an entire soccer team over for dinner.

Vanessa has always had a passion to do more for the community, which is what led her to become a forensic police officer. She spends her days solving crimes and by night, feeding the community.

After attending to a case one day, she came across a poor, vulnerable girl, and she decided to help the girl and paid out of her own pocket. That’s where she decided to start her own nonprofit organisation in Paarl East called Fountain of Hope where today, they make a difference in hundreds of lives. All after-hours when she gets off her twelve-hour shifts.

She has been listed as a real South African Hero by Valcare. Valcare, an Impact Funding Platform activating social change in the Cape Winelands, has launched a new web video series shining the spotlight on the #RealHeroes in the Cape Winelands communities.

They decided to highlight the people who despite their past and difficult start to life, stood up against the odds to not only survive but thrive. These are ordinary people from the Cape Winelands who make a significant difference in some or other way.

Vanessa says that working at the NPO after a long days work as a forensic officer may sometimes be exhausting but is entirely worth seeing her community thrive.
