A group from the ‘Love Week’ outreach programme took to the streets of Alberton to collect money and winter jackets for people in need this winter.
Love Week is an outreach programme under the supervision of the Dare2Care Foundation, the social justice arm of Bridge Church. Every morning, the team braved the winter chill and gathered at different traffic lights to raise money for the foundation.
Along with their fundraising efforts, they also collected winter jackets and packed 7000 meals for children. It was a week of spreading the love and their efforts paid off. The group raised over R60,000 in funds and collected over R10,000 worth of jackets. They also managed to feed 150 people looking for work.
The money raised will be helping disadvantaged children in the area. The group was made up of around 70 young adults who woke up early and stood at traffic lights to help inspire people to be generous on their way to work. When they were done on the roadside, they partnered with ‘Rise Against Hunger’ to pack the 7 000 meals which will feed three children every day for a year.
Then they went to spend time at the PUSH Drop-In Centre in Eldorado Park to learn about their culture. The centre works with children in their community so they spent quality time playing with the children.
