When a rushed moment saw musician PJ Powers leave her car door wide open at Fourways Mall, an honest security guard stepped in to protect her belongings and completely restored her faith in humanity.
Johannesburg, South Africa (23 June 2026) – Most of us have had one of those moments we’d prefer not to admit to, where we found ourselves so overwhelmed or distracted that we forgot to lock a door, close a window, or carelessly left behind a prized possession where we shouldn’t have.
It’s one of those very human moments where, upon realisation, we can’t help but shake our heads in disbelief or disapproval of, well… being human.
Adored South African musician PJ Powers, affectionately known as Thandeka, recently had one of those moments at Fourways Mall. After parking her car in one of the mall’s parking lots on Saturday, she not only forgot to lock her vehicle but also left the door wide open in a rushed moment before going about her errand.
It was a mistake that could have easily cost her a lot – only it didn’t, thanks to an honest security officer named Hector Gumanazi, who stepped in as a real lifesaver!
“Upon returning, he was waiting patiently for me with a big smile,” PJ shared in a social media post.
“He asked me to check everything was there, and as it happened, there was a pair of really pricey Ray-Ban Sunglasses on the seat exactly where they were.”
In what we can only imagine was followed by a huge sigh of relief, PJ was overcome with gratitude for the security officer who didn’t just stand on guard to ensure her vehicle was untouched but also restored her faith in humanity.
“I would love [to thank] the Fourways Mall Security or whoever is responsible for employing these amazing men and women,” PJ said, tagging the security company in hopes of personally thanking and compensating Hector.
“In this day and age, honesty should be rewarded. Thank you, Hector, for all your help. You are a good man and an asset to your country.”
