Bianca and Nic are doing everything they can to support their rescue doggie, who has beaten the odds three times over! Rex is getting his mobility back, but he needs a prosthetic limb and proper rehabilitation to get there.
Kimberly, South Africa (13 August 2026) – Rex is one of the bravest rescue pups because he has already beaten the odds more than once. He deserves a comfortable, happy life. His wonderful family is hoping that with a little help, they can give him one.
Four years ago, Rex was found wandering the streets of Underberg by his now-dad, Nic, and he was in a terrible state. Riddled with worms and battling a high fever, the little dog was fighting for his life. Rex wasn’t ready to give up just yet, though. After all, he’d just found his forever family.
“The vet told us he didn’t have long. But Rex wasn’t ready to give up.” says Bianca. “Against all odds, he pulled through. He stole our hearts from the very beginning and quickly adapted to a life filled with love, comfort, and happiness. Watching him leave behind the hardships of his past and finally experience what it means to be loved has been one of life’s greatest gifts.”
They watched as their once-sick rescue doggie settled into his new life of happiness, leaving a difficult start behind. Then, sadly, tragedy struck.
“Rex suffered a traumatic injury that resulted in the loss of his front right leg.” shares Bianca.
Even that couldn’t keep him down for long. Rex soon adapted to life on three legs and was simply thrilled to be mobile again, making the best of his new normal.
“Despite everything he had been through, he remained determined. He adapted to life on three legs far better than anyone expected and was simply excited to be mobile again.”
Then, during his recovery, another accident happened. Rex fell and dislocated his hip, leaving his family facing another frightening battle and the possibility of losing their much-loved boy.
“Once again, our brave boy found himself facing a difficult battle. The veterinarians gave him only a 50% chance. Hearing those words was heartbreaking. After everything he had already overcome, we could not imagine losing him.”

After everything Rex had already survived, it was a heartbreaking thing for his family to hear. But once again, their brave boy surprised everyone.
“Through God’s grace, countless answered prayers, and the incredible dedication of his veterinary team, Rex is slowly but surely on the mend. Every step forward feels like a miracle. Every tail wag reminds us of just how strong he is.”
His family says every little bit of progress feels special, while that familiar wagging tail is a lovely reminder that Rex is still very much in the fight. Now, they just need a little help to keep him moving in the right direction.
Rex’s medical treatment has used up his pet insurance cover, and he still needs ongoing physiotherapy to help him regain his strength and mobility. His family is also hoping to get him a prosthetic front leg, which could make a big difference to his comfort and quality of life.
To help cover the costs, Bianca and Nic have started an online crowdfunding campaign with a goal of R12,000. So far, R1,620 has been raised towards Rex’s recovery.
“Rex has never stopped fighting,” they share. “From a sick little puppy abandoned on the streets to surviving the loss of a limb and a serious hip injury, he has shown more courage than we could ever put into words.”
