23-year-old SeungBeom Cho did the seemingly impossible over the weekend when he set a new Rubik’s Cube world record by solving the puzzle in an astounding 4.59 seconds.
The most-coveted record in cubing (yes, that’s a thing) was set just over a month ago with a 4.69-second solve by Patrick Ponce; now that has been bested. The record has yet to be made official, but people inside the community are accepting the 4.59 mark as the new record.
Reddit commenters note that the world record keeps getting broken because speedcubers decrypt existing techniques in order to make them even faster.
Cho broke his record in Chicago, at the World Cube Association’s ChicaGhosts 2017. As seen in the video, everyone rushes to congratulate him. Not one person in the room looks bitter or skeptical, such an incredible moment.
We tried to replicate the video with his amazing technique and we’re currently sitting on 13 hours of not being able to even get one side of the cube to match.
