Donald Ramphadi will be making his way back to South Africa early next week and Tennis South Africa is encouraging everyone to give him a hero’s welcome at the airport.
Johannesburg, South Africa (15 June 2023) – Donald Ramphadi will touch down in South Africa on the 19th of June 2023 at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, as a Grand Slam champion. South Africans are being encouraged to give him a hero’s welcome home.
“Our 2023 #RolandGarros Grand Slam champion, Donald Ramphadi, will be touching down at O.R. Tambo International Airport next Monday.
Come join us as we welcome home our wheelchair tennis star, following his and Kgothatso Montjane’s outstanding accomplishments in France.”
Donald Ramphadi made history after becoming the first South African (able-bodied or adaptive athlete) to win the title in decades. His achievement is huge! After the Roland Garros French Open, Ramphadi has also been competing at the French Riviera Open, an ITF Super Series wheelchair event in Biot, France. Once he has played his matches, he will fly on home.
Born and raised in Limpopo, he went on to make his Wimbledon debut in 2022. He’s a highly ranked quad tennis player and reached his global ranking of no 4 recently.
If you are able to get to OR Tambo International Airport on Monday, you can find all the details for his homecoming below.
“Please note that the arrival of Kgothatso Montjane will be communicated in due course as she will be arriving on a different date.”
