The spring holiday programme reached more than 900 children across seven communities in four provinces, combining sport with lessons in confidence, teamwork and healthy living.

Johannesburg, South Africa (09 October 2026) – More than 900 children spent part of their spring school holidays getting active, learning new skills and having fun, thanks to Sporting Chance’s holiday clinics.

A Friday night at the beach is usually about unwinding after a long week, but for these youngsters, it’s also an opportunity to get involved, build confidence and learn through sport.

Sporting Chance’s Spring School Holiday Clinics reached seven shopping centre-based communities across four provinces, bringing children together through soccer, rugby and netball.

And it wasn’t just about what happened on the playing field. The children also took part in activities focused on healthy lifestyles, personal hygiene, safety, healthy relationships, gender-based violence awareness, problem-solving, respect and responsibility.

The programme also created opportunities within the communities themselves, employing eight coordinators and 65 community coaches.

Young girls were encouraged to get involved, develop their skills and build confidence, helping create more opportunities for them to participate in sport.

With children connecting with one another, learning to work as a team and discovering what they can achieve, the clinics offered much more than a way to keep busy during the school holidays.

Sporting Chance says its goal is to create safe spaces where children can access quality sport, development opportunities and positive experiences.

Through initiatives like these, sport becomes a way for children to stay active and develop skills that can benefit them well beyond the final whistle.
